Why I’m Participating in NaNoWriMo 2020

For those of you unfamiliar with the term, NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. Each year, writers from across the globe join a growing online community to write an entire novel in a month! To win Nanowrimo, a writer needs to complete 50,000 words of a new work in progress. It seems pretty doable–if you don’t have a life, lol. Who among us doesn’t have something competing for our attention every day? Whether kids, a spouse, pets, or a job, we each have limited time in a day to accomplish our goals.

I happen to work full-time as a Medical Coding Consultant, and I have a family, pets, a home to keep clean, and meals to make. So why would I put myself through such a pressure cooker? Because I’ve never had the nerve to try, and I want to.

As I see it, I have about 2 hours a day I could focus on writing. Within that time, I usually can write between 750 and 1000 words an hour–if my distractions are limited. Luckily for me, my children are no longer little and can pretty much care for themselves. They’ve also started helping more with meals, which I’m really grateful for. My goal this month is to write what will most likely be a third of my work in progress–The Shadow and The Forgotten Isles. I’m excited to dive in. As the month progresses, I’ll try to get back here to update on my progress. I don’t want to promise too much because, well, my time is limited.

For those of you who don’t already know, my latest release is out!

The Shadow and The Blade took a year to complete. I’m hoping this time around I will be able to release Cursed Kingdom 2 in less time. I’m aiming for 6-9 months. I’ve gotten TSATB on most e-retailers, but unfortunately, Barnes and Noble Press got hacked and I haven’t been able to upload to their platform yet.

Lutera is a wonderful world full of magic and creatures, but human and nonhuman ;). I’m excited to share it with you, and I hope you enjoy exploring! I know I have!
